Resonation Diet: Week 41

So, what have I been doing and contemplating in Week 41?

Week 41

So, I’ve been perfect this week again on the Keto diet plan, eating only a few limited foods. I’ve got it down to eating twice per day, mainly between 12 pm – 2 pm and 6 pm- 8 pm.  

I’m not stuffing myself at my last meal, so my stomach has been rumbling like mad when I go to bed, and I’ve been finding it a little harder to wait until noon on a few days, others I’m okay waiting until 1 pm. 

The results on the scales? I think I’ve lost half a pound or maybe 1lb at most over these last two weeks. This would mean I’ve lost 13lb in 13 weeks, which is excellent for me, but my scales are weird, so I can’t trust that extra pound has come off but, I feel like it should have, even though I’ve felt a little heavier within myself. Maybe it’s that funny time of the month; I’m not sure, so I’ve measured myself again instead, to make me feel somewhat rewarded for my efforts (well, I say efforts, but it’s not that much effort now I’ve gotten used to it).

The result from the tape? I have lost an extra 1/2 inch from my waist, 1/4 inch from my calves, and 1/2 inch from the top of my legs. The rest has stayed the same.

I was going through my old notes this week and found a diet I tried around four years ago, which I created for myself. I named it Fat Burner Week. I was on Slimming World at the time. I decided that for one week, I wouldn’t eat any Syns, healthy extras, pasta, rice, peas, beans or corn. Instead, I would adopt a strict routine of eating foods I knew was good for the body, foods that affect the metabolism because they contain fat-burning nutrients inside them. 

I hoped that if I made a diet with mainly these types of foods that they would and get transferred into my bloodstream and make me lose more weight than usual. The foods also had to be unprocessed, low in trans fats, low in carbohydrates, fresh and delicious, one-ingredient foods created by nature. 

No 1: Grapefruit

Grapefruit reduces insulin levels (the hormone responsible for fat stores). The enzymes found in this fruit speed up the metabolism, making you burn more fat. 

No 2: Coffee

Coffee is another fat burning food that many of us enjoy. Coffee is also full of antioxidants that slow down the ageing process.

No 3: Spinach

I consider spinach as one of the best superfoods that’s loaded with healthy protein and iron. It lowers cholesterol and stimulates metabolism, helping you stay healthy and young, as do all the leafy green vegetables. 

No 4: Berries

Berries have antioxidants and vitamins, helping to boost the immune system, and are lower in carbs than other fruits.

No 6: Cayenne Pepper 

Cayenne pepper stimulates your metabolic rate, suppresses your appetite, and helps to melt fat.

No 7: Celery

I heard celery makes you burn more calories when eating it than what you consume from it.

At the time, I heard that a vegetable soup diet was one of the healthiest ways to reduce weight and to stay fit. It can easily be planned for the seven days, keeping soup a staple and varying the other fat-burning foods too.

My Fat Burning Soup Recipe

Ingredients: onions, cabbage, green bell peppers, celery, fresh herbs, a little salt and cayenne pepper, and veggie stock cubes.

The plan was to include fat-burning foods each day and to eat as much soup and fruits as I liked. The only fruits I would stay away from were bananas and grapes. Slimming World deems these as free foods instead of Super free. 

This was my diary:

DAY 1

9 am 2 cups tea

11 am: soup and grapefruit 

1 pm: melon 

3 pm: soup, grapefruit, orange, apple and pear 

6 pm: Diet Coke

8 pm: soup, peach and strawberries

11 pm: nectarine and melon 

DAY 2 (I weigh 1lb less than yesterday!)

9 am: 2 cups tea

12 pm: soup and green beans and snap peas

3 pm: tea and green beans and snap peas

6 pm: celery and tea

9 pm: Diet Coke, kale and sprouts

11 pm: Diet Coke, spinach and eggs 

DAY 3

9 am: 2 brews

11 am: watermelon, grapefruit, strawberries and herbal tea

2 pm: cherries and an apple

5 pm: soup, strawberries, orange and an apple

9 pm: asparagus, Quorn, lettuce and spring onions 

11 pm: brew

DAY 4

9 am: 2 brews

11 am: fruit smoothy with almond milk

3 pm: soup

5 pm: blueberries, cherries and 0% fat yoghurt

7 pm: pear 

10 pm: soup

This pattern continued for day 5, 6 and 7

By the end of the week, I’d lost 2lb, which was the most I’d ever lost on the Slimming World diet, letting me know that the Slimming World diet didn’t work, although it took me four more years to learn that it would take even more than cutting down a little on carbs, to cutting out a lot. 

Whatever diet you’re doing, or whatever you’re consuming, make sure you are eating quality foods, wherever funds will allow you to. Our biological systems have to keep our body functioning, and our digestive system is just one of them. For it to work in sync with our other functions, we need to receive vital nutrients from our food.

Ordinarily, our body needs a whole range of different vitamins, minerals and enzymes to be in balance. At the moment, on Keto, I may be depriving myself of quite a few by not eating fruit, but it’s okay for now until I get to my goal. I don’t feel sick, tired and lifeless and that’s because my fat stores are being burnt to make up for the carbs I’m not taking in. 

At the moment, I’m aware that I should be eating a whole range of different, nutrient-rich foods from varying food groups to ensure that my body functions properly but, as I’m trying to lose excess body fat, some of them will have to go for a while. All I can do in the meantime is make sure I’m getting a few of them in where I can, like berries, which are still allowed on the Keto diet. My point is that you should also ensure you take advantage of that, if you’re following the Keto diet.

Make sure whatever plan you’re doing is working, if it isn’t it’s because it doesn’t resonate with your body. Stop and find what does. Half of it is what resonates with your mind. Logic will tell you if what you’re doing feels right or not. If you’re eating a chocolate bar and saying you’re allowed because you saved your Syns for it, you subconscious secretly thinks you’re naughty, knows chocolate is terrible for you and will override your efforts. If you understand calories, you may get away with this subconscious sabotage, but your mind will still know you’re not healthy.

Let’s be healthy and sensible together. Let’s go with what we know to be true: sugar puts weight on you! You can have good sugars if you’re the right weight, not overeating them and use the energy they give you, but you can’t have them if you want to lose weight. Simple.
